Abstract
Online sale of medicine is completely prohibited in Korea. This policy is in stark contrast to some other countries that have permitted internet pharmacies. The prime example is Korea¡¯s neighbors - Japan and China. This article compares the regulations of internet pharmacy in Korea, the U.S. and Japan, and offers policy considerations for Korea should it decide to permit online pharmacy. The author suggests that Korea categorize internet pharmacies into (1) legitimate online pharmacies with domestic presence, (2) rogue internet pharmacies, and (3) legitimate foreign online pharmacies without domestic presence in Korea, and build differential regulation for each category.
